The IMS is a collection of guidance and tools.
It is grounded in principles of human rights, equality and evidence-based practice. The provision of supportive supervision as outlined in the IMS will better enable the global mental health workforce to deliver high quality, timely, appropriate, safe and ethical MHPSS interventions to persons affected by adversity.
The IMS was developed using a participatory approach to address the supervision gap within MHPSS (across sectors) working in humanitarian settings. The IMS was developed and continuously updated to reflect piloting, broad consultation with MHPSS actors across stakeholder engagement interviews, workshops, and consensus building exercises, as well as drawing on international best practice in supportive supervision.
As of 2024, the Integrated Model for Supervision has been piloted in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Jordan, Nigeria and Ukraine. The IMS project is currently working on the roll-out and scale-up in the MENA and Sahel regions, and within Central and South America in 2024 and 2025.
